Pedro Grases Library

Monitoring and alarms generated by door opening, glass break detection and presence detection during controlled schedules and zones.

Client's need

Libraries are spaces for study, and some of the characteristics associated with these spaces are calm and security. For this reason, the client wanted to have a comprehensive anti-intrusion security system that would allow action in case of detecting unauthorized access to a restricted area. All managed from a tool that could be used by both university security staff and authorized library workers.

Site visit and construction process

Being an existing space, work began with a visit to the spaces to analyze the construction reality against existing plans. It is very common not to have updated as-built information for a building; over the years, changes made are not reflected. Therefore, something fundamental is the field review and verification process to avoid future problems, so that the plans to be worked on reflect all reviewed changes, as added value for the client.

Security in spaces

To improve comprehensive space security, a system was proposed that enables monitoring of door status (open or closed), presence detection in certain restricted spaces and glass break detection (in areas with glass facades). Additionally, sirens are placed throughout the building to sound locally (in the protected space) and generally (an exterior siren to notify security personnel). All elements allow schedule-based control configuration and individual enable/disable for each element in case of planned events in secured areas, without affecting the rest of the installation.

Project achievements

Through this system, information on occupancy status in sensitive areas is available at all times, both locally and remotely, to act in case of an eventuality. Allowing flexibility to adjust parameters and settings at the configuration level. Adding an additional contribution to the comfort and security of users and workers in such an important facility as the university library.
